How it works

  • book a car either via the internet or by telephone
  • using your smartcard to get in, pick up the car from a local parking bay
  • return the car when you've finished
  • monthly bills for easy payment

Some car clubs charge an annual fee typically ranging from £100 to £200 and have vehicle usage charges of about £4-5 for the first hour and £2-3 for subsequent hours. Mileage charges are low for a typical urban journey, usually 15-20p a mile. Some clubs also make a booking charge.

On top of all of these personal benefits there are significant environmental benefits with reduced congestion and pollution being the most obvious. Experience in Europe and North America shows that car club members use public transport and other transport means more and cut car mileage by half - no need to make unnecessary journeys to justify all that outlay!

Car Clubs are best for:

  • people with difficult parking locally
  • people who need a second car
  • people who are feed up with the hassle of owning a car in London!
